We are the honor societies of Texas Tech University. The membership to our organization is based on the achievement of a grade point average of 3.5 or above during your freshman year at Texas Tech. This scholastic achievement is a tribute to your family, your local education efforts, and to the student who has developed good study habits and the self-discipline to use time wisely.
Alpha Lambda Delta
This was an honor society for freshman women in 1924 at the University of Illinois. The Texas Tech chapter was established in 1949. The purpose of Alpha Lambda Delta is to encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living, and continue a high standard of learning.
Phi Eta Sigma
Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois in 1923 to promote superior scholarship among freshmen men. The Texas Tech chapter was established in 1946. The honorary membership is given at the beginning of the college career, give promise of continued excellence in scholarship.
Monthly General Meetings
In general meetings, members will be informed about future ALD & PES activities. It is a great way to be active in the organization! In the beginning of each Spring semester, we have the informative general meeting. These meetings are for prospective members who may be interested in joining the organization.
Community Service & Socials
Throughout the years, we have had numerous community service events that are available to every members. We have volunteered in places like the Morris Safe House, Ronald McDonald House, Salvation Army, etc. We also host monthly food drives. Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma also help members connect with each other through Socials, such as color run, bowling, and many more!
The Point System for Receiving Graduation Cords and Potential Scholarships
Points are awards for attending and participating in ALD/PES meetings and events. Once you earn 10 points, you will receive honor cords that can be worn at graduation. Also, at the end of each semester, the top point earners are awarded a local scholarship!
Points are awarded as follows: general meeting – 1 point, member social – 2 points, community service event – 3 points. You have until you graduate to earn the 10 points for honor cords.
